Asphalt Maintenance During Autumn Season
November 3, 2019Asphalt speed bump install company:
Even though there are many types of asphalt speed bump install company available in the market, asphalt speed bumps remain the most common and popular.
They stay around longer than other speed bumps such as rubber or plastic which needs changing every year. Therefore are a more lasting solution to slowing down aggressive drivers.
The installation of speed bumps is quite simple. Let’s go through it step by step.
-
Marking the area
The first step is to mark the area which will be paved later by saw cutting. The best way to go about this is to leave a one-foot distance from the curb or the pathway so that the water flow is not disrupted.
The width and length of the speed bump is also significant. Typically, they are 2-3 feet wide and 3-4 inches high but this may vary depending on the contractor and the customer preference.
-
Saw Cuts
The next step in installing an asphalt speed bump is to cut the marked area where the new asphalt will be laid.
Using the saw requires precision however the asphalt excavation is quite satisfactory if done correctly. Once the saw cutting is done, we can move on to laying the new asphalt for the asphalt speed bumps.
-
Laying Asphalt
After you have laid the first layer of asphalt, you need to hand tamp it so that the asphalt
settles in smoothly.
Once the first layer settles down, we can proceed to install the speed
bumps.
-
Installing asphalt speed bumps
We have to add asphalt on the first layer up to 3 inches high and then rake it so that it doesn’t get messy. To improve the speed bump, it is advisable to rough rake the speed bump first.
Once done with that, we can use a lute (an instrument like a rake which is used for fine-tuning asphalt after paving) to give our speed bump a smoother texture.
As the hot asphalt spreads around, it is important that we clean the edges. Finally, hand tamping it one last time can yield the best results.
-
Let the asphalt cool down
As the asphalt is very hot, we have to cordon off the area to let it cool.
Even though the asphalt can cool down in half an hour, giving it a couple of hours is better.
-
Paint the speed bumps and you are done!
Once the asphalt settles down, we need to paint the speed bumps! Once it’s painted, we can give it an hour to dry and just like that, our asphalt speed bumps are installed and ready!
There are many benefits of speed bumps as they are quite effective when it comes to slowing the speed of the vehicles. They are especially useful in residential areas and neighborhoods where there’s a chance of drivers speeding up due to low traffic. Over-speeding by drivers is dangerous for other vehicles as well as pedestrians which is why a speed can help reduce risk to shopping, residential and school areas.
Furthermore, asphalt speed bumps are tougher than recent solutions such as plastic or rubber speed bumps even though these rubber/plastic options could be effective in smaller areas for slowing down vehicles but they have limitations like size and the need to readjusting.
